Condom Conversations:

Audio Player
Whether you’re single and hooking up or in a relationship, condoms are still one of your best tools to protect you and your partner(s) from HIV and other STIs.

It is important to have conversations about condom use with sex partners, whether casual or serious, but it can be difficult to do so. Sometimes the hardest part is starting the conversation, but you can practice. Start in front of a mirror or with a friend. Or, try writing down what you would say, in advance. The right time to talk about sex is BEFORE sex—not during, not after.

You can start the conversation by saying things like:
      • Do you have any condoms?
      • What does safe sex mean to you?
      • Are you sleeping with anyone else?
      • I like to play safe. What about you?
      • I’m negative and I want to stay that way by using condoms. What about you?
